La Barceloneta was the place where all the fishermen used to live with
their families. Recently it became a stylish area that preserve its
old-fashioned look and spirit being such a cool district, full of
attraction for tourists and for the people from Barcelona. It is only
150 meters far from the beaches, 200 meters away from one of the
typical Mercados of Barcelona (where you can find everyday fresh fish,
vegetables and else), 500 meters away from the Maritime Museum. Within
a few minutes’ walk you can arrive to the Parque de la Ciutadella, to
the Arc de Triomf and to the Borne area with its beautiful Catedral
del Mar, coffee bar and cocktail bar. Also close to Las Ramblas, the
Gothic Cathedral and to the Olympic Village, the Barceloneta is very
well connected to the rest of the city with many buses and Metro lines
to get everywhere in Barcelona. The most important restaurants to eat
fish in the city are very close to this apartment and it is also
possible within a walk around to find lots of tapas and cocktail bars.
If you want to discover a very peculiar place in the perfect Spanish
mood, you should go right in the corner (in calle Sant Carles 34) and
have a look into the Bar Leo, a small shots bar where is possible to
find common people playing gipsy guitars and dancing flamenco in a
small old-fashioned hall with the Vergin Picture, Marilyn Monroe
portraits and some photo of Bambino, a famous bolero singer of the
60’s. Bakery, small shops and coffee bars are all around in the area.
It is the perfect small Mediterranean village in the middle of one of
the most exciting cities in Europe.
