     Description

Nestling among the olive groves of Tijola, in the foothills of the
Sierra Nevada, the villa Castaño, is a quiet and peaceful retreat.

Less than 2 miles from the market town of Orgiva, the white washed
Berber villages, can be found clinging to the southern slopes of
Spain’s highest mountain range. These were the last outposts of the
Moors after the fall of Granada in the 16th century.

Made famous in the early 1900's by Gerald Brennan with his
book "South from Granada" and more recently described by Chris
Stewart in his best selling book "Driving Over Lemons" and his
sequel Parrot in a Pepper Tree, this rural area offers peace and
tranquillity with easy access to bars, restaurants and supermarkets.

Just one hour south of Granada and two hours east of Malaga, with
the coast and golf only 35 minutes away and skiing in the winter,
just 1 hour 15 minutes, the villa has been designed with the 16th
century Alhambra Palace in mind, but with all the luxuries and
comforts of the 21st century.

This villa has two double bedrooms: one with double bed, the other
with twin beds. Both with ceiling fans, air-conditioning, central
heating, large fitted wardrobes and luxury bed linen. Fabulous views
from every window.

Bathroom: beautifully tiled with luxury fitted shower, heated towel
rail and radiator. Spectacular views.

Kitchen: Fully fitted, modern and very well equipped, with large
fridge/freezer, split level electric oven with eye level grill, gas
and electric hob, washing machine, dishwasher and microwave. The
kitchen window overlooks the Moorish courtyard.

Living Room: Comfortably furnished. Ceiling fan, Satellite TV,
video/DVD recorder, (the owners have a library of videos and DVDs
available), wood burning stove and radiator.

Enjoy the dramatic views of the Contraviesa mountains from the
living room and terrace.

Outside Area: There are various outside dining and relaxing areas to
choose from, including a Moroccan arched veranda and an open aspect
room.

     Amenities

The villa has its own private garden and shares the further garden with the apartment.

Swim in the beautiful 10 x 5 metre Moorish style swimming pool.

BBQ facilities are available.

Play Boules/Petanque, badminton or table-tennis.

     Attractions

SKIING

The ski season is beginning of December until the end of March and
the resort is just over an hours drive away. Decide, on the day,
whether to go skiing, to the beach, or both! There are over 70 kms
of wide pistes and plenty of restaurants and bars in the ski resort.
From the higher pistes you can see the coast of Africa on a clear
day.

WALKING

There are many spectacular walks whether you are a keen walker or
you just like to stroll. Either buy a map and take off on your own,
or go on one of the many organised walks in the area.

RIDING

Trekking in the mountains go for just a few hours or several days,
depending on how keen you are. For those of you who cannot ride,
this might be the ideal opportunity to take lessons.

MOUNTAIN BIKING

The terrain is wonderful for hiring mountain bikes and venturing
into the mountains.

PARASCENDING/HANG GLIDING

Not for the fainthearted! Glide down from the high up mountain
villages, landing on the dry river bed of the River Guadalfeo.
Alternatively, just watch others from the comfort of your sun-
lounger by the pool!

GOLF

There is a golf course in Motril and one partway to Granada. There
are also many courses just over an hours drive away on the Costa del
Sol.

THIS AREA IS OF GREAT INTEREST TO BOTANISTS, BIRDWATCHERS, WRITERS
AND PAINTERS ALIKE.

ORGIVA

Whilst not being a large town Orgiva is the capital of the
Alpujarras and holds a weekly market in the town, every Thursday
morning. There are plenty of tapas bars, several restaurants and
many small supermarkets. There are also two health food shops and a
herbalist pharmacy. Enjoying many fiestas throughout the year, this
is very much a Spanish town.

LANJARON

Lanjaron is a spa town, where the Spanish have enjoyed treatments
for over 100 years. The minerals found in the many different waters
are said to be an aid for any number of ailments.

GRANADA

Visit the fascinating city of Granada with its spectacular Alhambra
Palace, and the old Moorish quarters of the Albaicin. Shop in the
sophisticated town centre or just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the
street restaurants and cafés in this ancient student town.

COAST/BEACH
Thirty five minutes to the beaches of the Costa Tropical. Relax on
one of the many quiet beaches or visit one of the more popular ones
in the lively towns on the coast.

WHITE VILLAGES

The white villages in this region were built by the Moors and have a
charm and style unique to this area. Spend the day visiting
different villages and discovering some of the local crafts, still
practiced in the region. Or simply enjoy a meal at one of the many
restaurants.
