having made every effort to retain many of the original features,
while incorporating modern amenities. We have created a warm, homely
atmosphere for your stay. A great place for children to play and
parents to relax, see our favourable room combinations. You can soak
up the sun, snooze in the shade or enjoy a bottle of wine from our
select collection on the terrace. Malcolm and Edward, your hosts,
will endeavour to help you make the most of your stay in their home.

Appleton's is situated on 2 acres of beautifully landscaped
countryside with a variety of trees, shrubs and lovely flowering
borders. We welcome you to take a stroll through the property
including our fruit and vegetable gardens, which provide a bountiful
harvest throughout the year for guests and ourselves. Our free-range
chickens and ducks are quite entertaining and you are most welcome to
help us gather eggs for your breakfast!

Dining is a relaxing experience served alfresco under the garden
pergola, weather permitting. Evening meals often include organic
meats from a neighbouring farm and fresh, seasonal produce from our
garden. All meals are freshly prepared and we can accommodate any
special dietary needs and vegetarian meals. Breakfast is a sumptuous
offering of our free-range eggs cooked to order, tomatoes and
mushrooms along with an assortment of cereals, yoghurts, toast and a
selection of homemade jams and marmalade. Your choice of beverage
includes fruit juice, unlimited tea, coffee and hot chocolate.

Our 4-legged family members, Gobbi the cat and Leo the Labrador dog,
are very friendly and always eager to greet new friends! Our pet-
friendly rooms are located on the ground floor for easy access.
Please let us know in advance if you wish to bring your well-behaved
pet, only one small clean dog per room, as a large breed dog will
have to sleep in the lounge or in the owners car until we have made
some kennels.

Appleton's is a warm and biker friendly bed & breakfast perfectly
situated in the Centre region of France, simply reached by all modes
of transport. Our location provides a perfect setting of peace and
tranquillity, yet is easily accessible from the motorway, making
Appleton's ideal for a weeks holiday or as a stopping point for
travellers heading to the South of France and the Mediterranean. We
are 6 hours from Calais and just 10 minutes from the A20, exit 17.
The Limoges and Poitiers airports are within 1-1.5 hours drive
respectively. The main route by train from Paris to Toulouse stops
near-by in the town of Argenton sur Creuse or Chateauroux. We are
quite happy too provide transport to and from the airports and train
stations for a nominal fee.

We are surrounded by fabulous tourist sites; the historic medieval
market town of Argenton sur Creuse is just 8 km and Chateauroux, the
capital of Indre (Department 36), is located within 30 km. The Eguzon
lake-park and the Three Lakes district with their stunning views is
just up river with its variety of water sports is a 20-minute drive,
closer to hand, the Brenne National park is minutes away. We have all
the information available for you to make the most of your stay in
our region and we are happy to assist in any way.

Why not stop off at Appleton’s if you are on your way to Carcassonne
Perpignan or Toulouse just a day’s drive away from us in the Midi
Pyrenees and Languedoc Roussillon regions of France, or the beaches
of the Mediterranean, the wine areas of the Corbieres and Limoux, or
the foothills of the Pyrenees. There are wonderful caves, Mas d'Azil,
Niaux, Lombrives, Bedeilhac, all where prehistoric man left behind
traces of his life and beliefs through handprints, cave paintings and
ancient artefacts. One can visit the underground river ( the largest
in Europe) at Labouiche, visit the towns of Mirepoix, Quillan,
Esperaza,Limoux, Rennes les Bains, Pamiers, Carcassonne, Beziers or
Narbonne - all full of history.

We are located near the Limousin, and are resident English and French
speaking owners of this Bed and Breakfast, holiday, vacation, stop
over chambres d'Hotes, farmhouse near to Argenton sur Creuse, Saint
Benoit du Sault, Eguzon, La Souterraine and Chaillac, just off the
main A20 motorway, auto route, between Paris, Limoges, Toulouse. One
and a half hours from Orleans, a days drive from Carcassonne and the
Mediterranean, drive on and see the new Millau bridge, in southern
France. On the way back to Calais or Boulogne from Perpignan,
Montpellier, Avignon or Narbonne having been in the heart of Cathar
country we are a great place to make a stop-over before catching your
ferry, similarly we are a great place on the way to these historic
towns and cities .

     Amenities

Indre is certainly the unspoilt heart of France, with its stunning
scenery and fine chateaux.

We are 30 kilometres from the capital of the region Chateauroux and 8
kilometres from the historical medieval town Argenton-sur-Creuse with
its ancient houses almost sliding into the river Creuse.

Argenton-sur-Creuse has a lovely town square where you can sit and
drink coffee, it has many shops for you to spend time looking in, or
visit the market on Saturdays which is supported heavily by the
locals as most of the meats, fruit and vegetables are organic, or
visit the museum based at the archaeological dig at Argentomagus, the
former Roman town.

Limoges is a wonderful city to explore, only an hours drive south and
with many fine restaurants, excellent shopping facilities and a
wealth of delightful galleries, museums and local outlets for the
famous Limoges pottery.

Poitiers is an hour and a half's drive, it is a charming town which
again, is well worth a visit, and famous for the fantastic
cinematographically centre of Futuroscope, as is the new 'Vallee de
Singes', which houses over 15 species of primates and 200 animals
without cages. Futuroscope is a serious days outing and the
facilities are marvellous. Also see the department of the Vienne for
days out

La Brenne Natural Park with its thousand lakes is a vast conservation
area dotted with lakes and criss-crossed with bridle paths. There are
organised hikes or you can simply set out on your own with a map.

At the Maison de la Brenne, there is an interpretive centre where
visitors can learn about the region, its ancient traditions of fish
farming and nature conservation.

A visit to the vast lake ( Lac Chambon )at Eguzon is a must. The
lake stretches for twenty-five kilometres and is the perfect place
where you can learn to water-ski, sail and windsurf. There are
several beaches for swimming and restaurants with a wonderful choice
of menus.

La Chatre is famous for being the home town of George Sands, and
Gargilesse, where George Sands had a home, now home to an assortment
of artists whose studios are open to the public.
