     Description

Maison Akette

Nestled in the heart of Provence, surrounded by vineyards and
Chateaux, olive groves, sunflower and lavender fields, medieval
villages and the Luberon Mountains, this charming, two bedroom,
two bath stone house is available for rent in a small village
founded in 1506. The completely
furnished house is on two levels. On the ground floor, there is a
living room area with a large leather couch and leather armchair, a
fireplace, television with multi-system VCR (plays American tapes to
entertain restless kids!), a stereo and CD collection, and is
decorated with rustic Provençal furniture and fabrics. Also on the
ground floor is a dinning area for 6, a fully equipped kitchen,
bathroom with bathtub and a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
The floors are of Mediterranean tiles and the view out of the
windows is onto an 18th century church and the Luberon Mountains. On
the second floor, up from the spiral staircase, are the two spacious
bedrooms with Queen size American mattresses and box springs, a full
bathroom with shower, and
access to the terrace. One bedroom features a skylight and French
doors leading out to the terrace which is not visible from below and
overlooks the Luberon: perfect for sunning and meals. The second
bedroom has a private bathroom with a shower and a view of the
mountains. The beds are dressed with down pillows and down
comforters, and the rooms are styled with Provençal fabrics and
antiques.

The village is a small, quiet, authentic French village in Provence -

with spectacular views of vineyards and mountains immediately
surrounding the village. This is a very calm and undeveloped part of
Provence and offers the authenticity of the French countryside. The
villagers and house manager will no doubt welcome you to their homes
for aperitifs and celebrate your
arrival with some Provençal delicacies.

In the immediate surrounding areas enjoy hiking and walking trails
in the Luberon National Park, biking, wine and olive oil tastings,
swimming, fishing, tennis, antiques shopping, and visits to medieval
villages with their wine cellars and farmer's markets. Nearby
villages boast wine
co-operatives and olive oil mills for sampling and buying. The house
is perfectly situated to explore the entire region of Provence.
Within one hour are the following destinations: to the west are the
famous wineries of Chateauneuf du Pape, the cities of Arles and
Avignon, to the
north are the hilltop villages of Gordes and Rousillion
(the “Colorado of France”), to the west is the striking Gorges of
Verdon, and to the south is the city of Aix-en-Provence, the
Mediterranean Ocean and Marseille. A bit further drive and you come
to the costal towns of the Cote d’Azure,
including St. Tropez, Nice and Cannes. In the immediate vicinity of
the house, however, explore farmers' and craft markets, a lake,
restaurants and castles in the nearby villages of La Motte D'Aigues,
Ansuis, Lourmarin, Cucuron and Grambois. Car rentals are available
at the airport or train station and full sporting equipment rentals,
art and cooking tours and classes, horseback riding, ballooning etc,
are all available in the area.

A perfect place to experience la France profonde in Provence!

Check in after 4pm, checkout before 11am, Saturday to Saturday.
Please note: because of the spiral staircase, the house may not be
suitable for toddlers!

“La Belle France was superb; the house, the food, the colorful
characters right out of French literature; You did a wonderful job
with the house, it was perfect for us. We had a terrific time.”
Wendy H.

“Your house is lovely, and we all felt at home there immediately
thanks for your care in decorating and equipping it. Your house is
the nicest we've ever rented in our visits to Italy and France, and
the village is still untouched by development and tourists. I loved
lying in bed and looking out over the balcony at the big dipper
every night as it slipped gradually away to the side, never quite
disappearing..” Peggy T.,

“We had a marvelous trip! We all loved your house. You have
thought of so many ways to make the place feel good and be equipped
with what we needed. We enjoyed all the detail in decorating. Your
choices were right on target. Peypin D' Aigues is delightful in so
many ways. How on earth did you ever find it ? It was a great
feeling coming back there after an excursion to Arles, St. Remy or
Aix-En-Provence.”
Phillip F.,

"Just wanted to reconfirm how much my mother and I enjoyed our
experience in France. -- Maison Akette [provided] excellent
accommodations, and the on site personnel were very helpful. Thanks
again for the excellent service!" Noel L, .

“We are now back home in Minnesota after having enjoyed greatly our
stay. What a nice house you have there. We enjoyed the comfort,
warmth, and uniqueness of Maison Akette. We had fun going to the
markets, touring the neighboring towns, and just enjoying the
countryside.
The information you provided was most helpful to us, and {the house
managers} were most hospitable and we enjoyed them immensely. They
are special people.” JoEllen R..,

“Your home maintained the character of the region while still having
all the comforts of America. We loved all the small villages and the
simple way of life. It makes all of us rethink our values. Thank
you for helping in an enormous way to enrich our lives by sharing
your wonderful home in an unforgettable country.” Lee
R.
