Time for a French country holiday? Not a chateau, our house is a
petite 200-year old stone hideaway just 2.5 miles south of the
Dordogne River in an unspoiled village far from the madding crowd and
the tour buses.
On the first floor there's a large stone-walled, beamed-ceiling room
with huge fireplace, kitchen equipped with gas/electric cooktop,
microwave, laundry washer and all utensils. A bright, airy sitting
area remains cool behind the thick stone walls and up the hand-made
wooden staircase is a charming attic bedroom with IKEA Queen bed,
wool berber carpeting and modern tiled shower.
Outside is a large, private stone-walled courtyard with garden
furniture and leafy Catalpa shade tree for those long French country
lunches.
Lean out the kitchen window and order fresh and aged artisan cheeses
from Didier our neighbor fromagiste who lives across the lane.
And down at the end of the village, open countryside for walking and
biking begins 100 yards away at the stone bridge that spans the
lovely little River Nauze.
