     Description

Escape to Costa Rica to our unique mountain house, built recently.
Situated on the Guanacaste Penninsula, the finca, (farm) overlooks
the Gulf of Nicoya on one side and the Pacific on the other with
several lush mountain ranges in between. The house is rustic, arsty,
dramatic, carefree and casual. It has lots of wood including exposed
teak beams and cana brava in the 20 foot ceiling. Five sets of
French doors open to a covered verandah, terraced gardens and
stunning views! (We grow teak trees and coffee.) Creatively
furnished, the house has a great room with a 4 poster king bed,
dining and sitting area, an American style kitchen, laundry area
with washer and dryer, and bathroom with shower. The sleeping porch
has a double and single bed and there is an outdoor shower and
toilet. An infinity lap pool on the Pacific side offers exercise at
your doorstep. This idyllic rural farm has two gentle horses. On
your rides or while hiking the lush countryside, you might see
monkeys, armadillos, wild pigs, coatis, and a variety of birds
including parrots and toucans. We live in a very safe rural area
with access to language school, canopy and rainforest tours,
volcanoes, butterfly farm, beaches and national parks. We are 35
minutes to a quiet little town that has a bank, grocery stores,
bakery, restaurant, sodas, gas, video store, and internet. Up here
in the mountains we have towns 10 minutes away with pulperias for
staples, and colorful local bars. Every community has a church and a
community hall where you can dance the cumbia, salsa, meringue, or
disco. Rodeos, soccer games, and cabalgatas are frequent events.

The nearby beaches, (e.g. Coyote) 45 minutes away, are pristine with
white sand, palm trees, and are noticeably lacking tourists. If you
want action, you can go to Playa Samara, an hour away, for
restaurants, shops, bars, disco, fishing, zip line etc. or to the
northern or southern tourist beaches, (e.g. Tamarindo, Coco, Nosara,
Tambor, Montezuma, Malpais etc.) which are a day trip away. We think
it is an advantage to be able to spend the day at the beach and then
return to the refreshing mountain air where you don’t need air
conditioning. We rarely have mosquitoes or flies so sitting out,
eating out or even sleeping out on the verandah is delightful.
Returning to or staying at Cerro Cumbia Cottage is more like taking
a deep breath and exhaling rather than breathing hard. If you are
looking for a fast paced beach holiday with crowds and lots of
action, you wouldn’t be happy here. If you want to get in touch with
nature, decompress, and enjoy peace and quiet in a true paradise,
come to our finca.

We can provide whatever level of assistance you require: information
only, transportation including a driver, daily housekeeping,
laundry, meals, grocery shopping etc. Or you may choose a self
catering, completely private, vacation knowing that if you need
help, we are only 3 kilometers away.

     Attractions

This province is Costa Rica’s hottest and driest region. The rainy
season starts later and ends earlier here and overall it’s more
dependably sunny than other parts of the country. Beautiful beaches
abound along the coastline and there is something for everyone
whether you are seeking a pristine deserted beach or one that has
luxury resorts. This is Costa Rica’s most coveted vacation region
and the site of its greatest tourism development. It is also
the “Wild West” of the country with cattle ranches and cowboys. This
is a big country with big views and a big sky.

During the dry season, mid November to June, sunshine is always
prevalent and the hillsides turn brown. If you are looking for a
tropical paradise at this time you will be disappointed. It looks
more like southern California. If you visit during rainy season,
June to mid November, the hillsides are a gorgeous verdant green and
the sun usually shines all morning giving way to showers and fog in
the afternoon…just in time for a siesta!
