Cortijo La Suerte is situated on the slopes of the Sierra Nevada at a
fifteen minutes walk from the village Pitres and a twenty minutes walk
from the village Mecina. It is a typical house in 'the campo' where
nature lovers can enjoy the quiet country atmosphere. The swimming
pool, Jacuzzi, central heating in the living room and floor heating in
two bedrooms are small luxuries that add to the rural living
style. So don't expect a luxurious holiday mansion but enjoy the
advantages of the absolute privacy of the countryside, where you can
be completely on your own.

The Cortíjo has been built ten years ago and recently an extra floor
and an annex have been added. With three double bedrooms it sleeps six

A Cortíjo is literally a farmhouse, and that is where Cortíjo La
Suerte is derived from. It lies in a Natural Park where it is not
allowed to build new houses outside the villages. The property
measures just less than an acre (3.300 square metres).

Living in “el campo” without mains electricity, gas or water can be
harsh, so we have installed solar cells, a silenced generator and a
central gas system. Water comes from our own spring and is excellent.

Because of the hilly area and the unfenced deep swimming pool, the
house seems less appropriate for children under six years old.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at your cortijo - what a beautiful
place! So peaceful! We didn’t encounter any problems with anything.
Everything was explained in a very clear and helpful fashion in your
House Book.
All in all 10 out of 10! We would certainly love to come back - if
you’d have us!

thank you so much for letting us stay in your wonderful cortijo. We
had a terrific time: the place is delightful and was just what we were

We stayed at Cortijo La Suerte for a week in February - the
weather was wonderful, and just a few other tourists shared the
walking trails with us. Snow still covered the Sierra Nevada, early
spring growth painted bright green patches on the hillsides and almond
trees blossomed in the valley and around the house.
The house itself is very secluded and private, with a fabulous view
and pleasant places to sit and eat outside. It's quite comfortable, a
little quirky (careful on the steps!), and ideal for a small group of
friends or family who want a place to themselves. We enjoyed Pitres
and other quaint villages nearby and especially recommend walking and
driving in the surrounding countryside.

Just a note to tell you how much we enjoyed staying at La Suerte. The
house is a little treasure. It was a pleasure getting away from the
normal frantic pace of modern life. The Alpujarras area was like
stepping back in time with comparisons to places such as Peru or
Chile!! There were several other marvellous experiences from our time
there and I could go on and on.

The upper floor has one large bedroom with a washstand and a smaller
twin bedroom. There is floor heating for cold times. Two double doors
open into large terraces of which one has an open fire for barbecue.
Both terraces have stunning views over the mountains. Next to the
bedrooms is a bathroom with bath, toilet and washstand. The bedrooms
have sufficient wardrobes.

From upper floor stairs lead down to another bathroom and the living
area. The bathroom has a shower, wash stand and toilet. While
showering one can admire the view over the mountains and Mecina.

The main floor has a large living room with an wood fire stove,
central heating and an open kitchen with hot and cold water, a
fridge/freezer, and a kitchen cooker.
The dining area has a table for six to eight persons, and the
inventory is sufficient for such a group.
The terrace on this floor is covered and is the perfect place to stay
on a hot summers day. This terrace also has a beautiful view over the
valley and the mountains.

Next to the swimming pool a little separate apartment is situated with
a nice hidden terrace between the fruit trees and beautiful views. It
consists of a double bedroom with a small bathroom
with shower and wash stand. The toilet is outside so it can be used
when you are at the pool terrace

There are several possibilities for barbecue. On the highest terrace
is a large table for dining in the open air. There are several outdoor
chairs and tables. Next to the private swimming pool there is a
terrace for sunbathing. There is ample place on the property to set up
tents for the children or for passing guests.



Pitres is situated between Pampaneira and Trevelez. It is just as
pretty but less touristy. In the valley below there are five hamlets -
Mecina, Mecinilla, Fondales, Ferreirola and Atalbeitar, all grouped
with Pitres in the municipality called la Taha. It is fascinating to
explore the surroundings on an altitude of over 1200 meters, with
ancient paths though beautiful woodlands and the tinkling sound of
running water. Pitres has appoximately 800 inhabitants
and has a supermarket, a bank,a pharmacy, two pubs with terraces in
the central market place.

The environment is a wonderful hiking area and it is possible to
wander for hours in beautiful nature in absolute silence.
The village is situated in a ‘park natural’, that is bordered on the
‘National Park the Sierra Nevada’. There are old paths leading to
other villages or old places like Roman churches. The Mediterranean
mountains (with many almond- and olive trees) are full of variation.

The mountain rivers and the sea offer to bath and swim on many places.
The Costa del Sol gives of course opportunities like sailing and
canoeing. This Costa is a one hour drive. In the mountains there are
many opportunities for horseback riding. And of course there is the
swimming pool of the house itself.

The Alpujarras is a wonderful place for a holiday and for relaxing
generally. It is ideal for walking and offers a vast range of options
from challenging high level snow line walks to casual meanderings
around the valley. Wherever you go you are accompanied by the sound of
water, either from the Rio Trevelez or Rio Poqueira, or from
the innumerable irrigation channels delivering water to the cultivated
land. It is a unique area, treasured by the Moors until they were
expelled by the Christians in the 15th century, and still shows many
signs of their occupation. Most notably the syle of Berber
architecture, little white box houses with flat grey roofs supported
by sturdy chestnut timbers.

Many people choose to use this area as a base for visiting the city of
Granada and the magical Alhambra palace, or for day trips to the
coast, but many more are content simply to relax and unwind, enjoying
one of the most tranquil holiday spots in Europe. Every season has
something special to offer in an area famed for its array of wild
flora and fauna. Other activities you can pursue here include
painting, horse riding, paragliding, canyoning, guided walks, cycling,
sitting, thinking and mellowing. There are a variety of restaurants
around including two vegetarian establishments. There are local
produce markets, bakeries, a travelling greengrocery van and a fish
van to meet all needs. Once you are here, there's no need to leave.

For small parties the property can be rented without the annex at a reduced rent, as indicated above. Also laundry service by caretaker (exclusive) Booking Notes By confirming the booking the renter agrees on these general conditions. 1. Rent The rent is inclusive bed linen, towels and service costs (gas, water, final cleaning and washing). Fuel (petrol) for the generator is included in the rent. 2. Security A security of Euro 150 is paid as to cover for possible damage. No later than two weeks after leaving the Cortíjo the security less eventual costs of damage will be refunded. The renter agrees to pay for the extra costs if the security is not sufficient. 3. Payment A down payment of 50% of the rent is paid within eight days after the booking. The other part of the rent and the security are paid not later than four weeks before moving into the holiday house. When the first payment has been received the renter will be informed by email. Further information will be included, such as a description of the route to Pitres and the way the keys will be handed over. A copy of the House Book, giving a detailed description of the Cortíjo and everything you need to know for a pleasant stay, will also be included. 4. Times of arrival and departure Arrival is on Saturday between 16.00 and 21.00 hours and the time of departure is on Saturday before ten o’clock a.m. If this is not convenient, the renter should inform us in time, so we can try to make arrangements. 5. Maximum number of persons The maximum number of persons that is agreed upon to stay in the Cortíjo should not be exceeded, unless agreed upon by the owner or the caretaker. 6. Cancelling by the renter Cancellation should be received by the owner not later than two weeks before planned arrival. A confirmation of the cancellation will be sent to the renter. 50% of the rent is charged when cancelling in time. In case of late cancellation 100% of the rent is charged. 7. Cancelling by the letter The letter is entitled to undo the agreement without costs, if the conditions are not followed. In cases of circumstances beyond control (like fire or natural disaster, etc.) the letter can cancel the agreement without costs. In that case all the payments will be paid back to the renter as soon as possible. 8. Liability During the stay in the Cortíjo, the renter is completely liable for the house, the furnishing and other belongings. Damage caused by the renter may be charged. In case of accident or personal injury in and around the Cortíjo, the letter is not liable.
