Guardamar. Located next to the mouth of the River Segura, Guardamar
overlooks a long beach bordered by a large expanse of sand dunes
covered with pines and eucalyptus. The setting is one of the most
unique scenes in the Land of Valencia, with original combination of
extensive coastal dunes protected by a verdant forest, fertile fields
and orchards and the omnipresent beach and the Mediterranean sea. The
forest parkland of the Dunas de Guardamar, with over 800 hectares
running parallel to the coast, is a wonder in a class of its own.
Market day in Guardamar is every wednesday morning spend the morning
here at this typical village market, where you'll find handicrafts,

The Beach.The exceptionally wide beach is one of the finest Blue Flag
beaches anywhere on Spain's Costas, with a brand new stylish car free
promenade, water sports and beach side cafes. There are 11km of fine
golden sands all with the coverted Blue Flag award. The beach, sand
dunes and pine forest is a coservation area, the whole area is a 840
hectare forest park called 'Dunas de Guardamar', and has been
declared an Area of Natural interest. The whole area is stepped in
natural beauty making it an ideal place for holidays. On the beaches
there are small beach bars. The Country Park has extensive picnic
areas for BBQs and has parking facilities, or you can pull in amongst
the pine trees.

Reina Sofia Park: Reina Sofia Park is a good place to walk and admire
the scenery within a magnificent setting of native flora and
fauna.The park, with its lakes, waterfalls and trails is beautifuly
designed.The park is an attractive feature of the local environment
where the pine groves have been enhanced with lakes, ponds, botanical
routes, and the wildlife make it well worth visiting. Festivities are
an important part of life in Guardamar. And the enthusiasm of the
locals will make you want to participate and be more than a mere
spectator. Carnivals: (February), with costumes and outdoor parties.
Holy Week (March/April), with processions and scenes from the
Passion. First and second Monday of Easter (March/April). Moors and
Christians (2nd fortnight of July), in honour of Saint James, with
parades of comparsas (mock warrior companies), sieges of the castle,
fireworks and the re-enactment of the legand of L 'Encanta. Feasts in
honour of the Virgin of Fatima (September) in the countryside outside
Quardamar. Feast in honour of the Virgin of the Rosary (7th October)
Cultural Life: Due to its ideal geographical situation, Guardamar has
been the chosen locations for many different cultures, from Iberians
to Romans, Arabs and Christians. Historical remains of these
civilisations can still be found. Of note is the Iberian settlement
of Cabezo Lucero, where an example of Iberian art, La Dama de
Quardamar (The Lady of Guardamar) was found dating from the 4th
century BC. Dating from the Arab domination, the archaeological site
of Rabita Califal, a group of mosques.
