THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

DARLINGHURST
Across William Street to the south of Kings Cross, Darlinghurst
Village is an eclectic mix of businesses, from well established
dining venues, cafes and bars, to modern fashion design and
furnishings, homewares, nightspots and boutique accommodation.

It is a heritage precinct and the majority of buildings are early
20th century terrace houses. There is also a fine stock of
federation buildings, art deco apartment blocks and a selection of
interesting buildings from the 1970s and 1980s. This precinct also
houses the St Vincents Hospital campus, the largest employer in
the inner east.

All within walking distance are the 20 blocks bounded by Barcom
Avenue, Surry, Craigend, Forbes and Oxford Streets and Taylor
Square. The Darlinghurst Precinct offers a realm of the senses for
locals and visitors alike.

Walk to Oxford Street, Darlinghurst, you will find everything from
supermarkets to gift shops, through to alternative clothing
boutiques, late night bookshops and music stores. The area is also
home to a range of exceptional designer and homewares outlets. This
happening strip, alive day and night, is also a great place for
people watching.

Walk to Victoria Street Darlinghurst its a popular place to dine.
This strip is particularly famous for its coffee and Italian style
cafes, but there are also some good Indian, Thai and other cuisines
here. Running north to south other popular establishments include;
Will and Tobys, Morgans, Bar Coluzzi, Unas, Tasso, Green Park
Hotel, Fu Manchu, Oh! Calcutta and Sel et Poivre. Stanley Street
also has a great selection of Italian cafes and restaurants, from
basic to up market, and nearby Oxford Street is known for its low
priced ethnic eateries, including Indian, Thai and Spanish. Le Petit
Creme is on Darlinghurst Road and Ristorante Riva, Darlo Bar, Onde
and bills are along Liverpool Street.

Darlinghurst has something for everyone wanting great nightlife.
Oxford Street never sleeps, with many late night pubs, bars and
nightclubs catering for gay, lesbian and straight tastes. There are
other pubs on William Street, Darlinghurst Road and Victoria Street
which offer live music and great company. For a quick taste
sensation day or night grab a bite at Global Burgers (best chips in
Sydney!) or Gelato Messina (best gelato of all!).

Other entertainment options in The Village are plentiful. For those
who like theatre they can walk to the East Village Hotel or Kings
Cross Stables Theatre, an excellent venue for intimate contemporary
performances which and Govindas is one of Sydneys best places for
a cheap meal and a unique cinema experience (lying down!).

The Sydney Jewish Museum on Darlinghurst Road provides an important,
educational and cultural experience. Both permanent and temporary
exhibitions provide visitors with an understanding of the events of
the Holocaust as well as documenting Jewish life from the first days
of European settlement in Australia. And for something really
different, witness a trial at Darlinghursts Court House!

Take in some history and culture at the Australian Museum and the
Sydney Jewish Museum or visit an alternative art gallery.

So close is Rushcutters Bay Park which offers a relaxing green space
with views over the harbour and its Marina. Located on the
waterfront adjacent to Rushcutters Bay Park, Reg Bartley Oval
provides nearby suburbs with a highly-prized sporting field suitable
for cricket, soccer and rugby union, as well as a delightful venue
for concerts, festivals and other community events. For children of
all ages, a large playground is located on Waratah Street within
Rushcutters Bay Park which features tennis courts and a cafe.

PADDINGTON/WOOLLAHRA
One suburb over is one of Sydneys most hip suburbs, Paddington. A
mecca for trendy shoppers and diners and well known for its markets.
Surrounded by charming National Trust listed Victorian architecture
and many art galleries its a delight to just stroll through and take
it all in.

Shop for antiques, books, clothes, gifts and homewares, deli goods
and fresh food on Oxford Street. The street is at its best on
Saturdays when the long running Paddington Markets are buzzing.
Feature stalls selling hand crafted goods, clothing, plants, books,
flowers, gourmet foods and more are alive with music, entertainment
and delicious food. There is also late night shopping and markets at
Fox Studios.

There is no shortage of places to eat along Oxford Street - all the
way from Darlinghurst to the corner of Jersey Road. The best dining
strips, however, are west of Victoria Barracks - mostly pubs and
ethnic restaurants - and east of Paddington Town Hall, an area that
is particularly good for daytime cafes and pub restaurants.

Visit Fox Studios or the Australian Centre for Photography, take a
stroll in nearby Centennial Park, or join a guided tour of Victoria
Barracks. There are also sporting events and behind-the-scenes tours
at the Sydney Cricket Ground and Aussie Stadium. Paddingtons
cinemas - the Chauvel in the Town Hall and the Palace Academy Twin
and Palace Verona - specialise in foreign and art house films. Also
on Oxford Street are plenty of happening clubs, pubs and bars.

The Belvedere Terrace Darlinghurst is the perfect location for
visiting Sydney. It is a great neighbourhood to experience "living"
in Sydney be it for just a week or even better a longer stay. So
central to the city and its beautiful harbour and close to
Sydneys famous beaches and waterways.

Walk to train and bus stations or literally hail a cab at your front
door to the wonderful sites of Sydney.

TESTIMONIALS
"I recently stayed at 'Belvedere' short stay accommodation with my
two impeccably behaved Mini Schnauzers. We had 2 wonderful weeks @
this beautifully presented and outfitted terrace home. The beds were
super comfy and luxurious; the decor very practical and stylish;
location superb for wining, dining and exploring. I was not to keen
on writing a favourable testimonial because it should be kept a
secret . I would definitely stay there again."

Catherine P, Perth

Myself, my husband and one year old son stayed in this rental
property for three weeks this November. It is such a great house to
stay in while visiting Sydney. Great restaurants, shops, etc. right
on our doorstep. The house itself was very stylishly furnished,
spacious and easy to maintain. We felt like we were staying at a
suite in the Hilton! It had a great enclosed back patio with
barbecue too which was nice.

The owner was kind enough to leave toys for our son to play with as
we were visiting from Ireland and couldn't bring a lot with us.

I would highly recommend staying here if you want a quiet home right
in the middle of everything. Our security bond was returned with no
delay soon after we left.

"We didn't want to leave Belvedere Terrace....a light, spacious, and
well equipped space, ideally situated for the bars and restaurants
of Darlinghurst and an easy bus journey or walk into the center of
Sydney. "

Max N, UK

We stayed at Belvedere Terrace with our 7 month old baby and
Rhodesian Ridgeback in December 06. We absolutely loved the house,
it is spacious, clean, well located, tasteful, beautifully set out
with all the modern comforts and has a fantastic couryard. It has a
very relaxing atmosphere. Helen, the owner of the property is
wonderful- extremely helpful, kind and charming. We hope to return to
Belvedere again soon.
