Description
|
|
EL`LURE, our Bahama house, is located directly on the water between
the villages of The Current and Lower Bogue. The house sits on a
coral ridge covered with vegetation and an assortment of fruit trees,
sea grapes and palms. There are steps leading into the water which
varies from 1 to 3 feet, depending on the tide. The bottom is white
sand and great for swimming, finding sand dollars and snorkeling along
the rocky shoreline at high tide. You can walk or swim for hundreds
of yards from the shore, as there are no currents or drop-offs, just
white sand. Very private. No one walking in front of the house. And no
sand flies. The location of the house takes advantage of four (4)
truly different Bahamian cultures:

Attractions |

The Current3-miles from the house.
A very quiet village settled over 300 years ago, 1648, with a
population of 131 people. There is a grocery store where you can get
basic provisions. The other public buildings include the community
building and one room school, a small library and the post office.
There are two churches, Gospel and Methodist. Other than church
services, the highlight of the week is the island mail boat Current
Pride, which takes passengers and farm produce to Nassau, departing on
Tuesday morning and returning on Thursday. The North Beach, Flats and
the world famous Current Cut are located near the village.
Lower Bogue 2-miles from the house.
Lower Bogue is larger than The Current with several grocery stores, a
liquor store the Seven Seas Restaurant serving great native food, plus
a sandwich shop. There is also a government health clinic, Methodist,
Baptist and Catholic churches. You can also purchase freshly baked
bread and produce from several of the ladies in the village.
Harbour Island “Briland”- Dunmore Town
The first capital of the Bahamas, established in 1729. Located a ten
minute drive from the house and a short boat taxi ride to Harbour
Island. There are several small five-star resorts along with scuba
diving facilities at Valentines or the Harbour Island Marina. Here
you’ll see yachts from around the world. The famous Pink Sand Beach
is located on the Atlantic side of Harbour Island. Shopping includes
several boutiques, art galleries, liquor stores, delis, grocery
stores, plus several restaurants. A trip to Harbour Island is an
enjoyable days outing, but you’ll be happy to return to the peace and
quiet of EL`LURE.
Spanish Wells on St. George’s Cay
Also a very old village receiving its name from the Spanish ships that
stopped for fresh water. Spanish Wells is the commercial fishing
capital of the Bahamas with a fleet of fishing boats plus marine
facilities. A short water taxi ride from Eleuthera. There is a large
supermarket, Food Fair, hardware store, marine supply stores and
several general stores. You can also purchase lobster at the
processing plant, Ronald’s Service Center, located near the water
front. The water taxi, leaves from Gene’s Bay on Eleuthera.
