APPOMATTOX/BUCKINGHAM STATE FOREST
Just right down the road from The Cheyenne! Over 19,500 acres of
land surrounding our property.
HOLLIDAY LAKE STATE PARK is within the State Forest and is a
paradise for the outdoor enthusiast. Fishing for largemouth bass,
crappie and bluegill in the 150-acre lake; swimming a the park's
life-guarded beach where the "Critter Hole" play area is a favorite
of young visitors; trails for hikers, bikers and equestrians; a
large shaded picnic area, two picnic shelters, two playgrounds, a
boat ramp; seasonal full-service concession stand and campstore; and
canoe, rowboat and paddle boat rentals.
JAMES RIVER OUTDOOR ADVENTURES Rt 60 & Rt 605 - Appomattox
For those of you who want to experience the outdoors without
bringing all your equipment, the James River Outdoor Adventures
offers full service livery, canoe, kayak, tube, and bicycle rentals.
All river excursions are designed to give you an enjoyable and
leisurely outing with your family and friends. Experience
spectacular scenery and plenty of time for exploring and fishing
along the way. Shuttle service available. Open May - September.
THE JAMES RIVER Hwy 26 & 60 - Appomattox
The pristine waters of the James River are the perfect place to
bring your boat, canoe, or kayak. There are class I and II rapids,
riffles, and rock gardens. The middle of the James is wide and
fairly shallow and provides great fishing! Boat access ramp located
at Bent Creek at the intersection of Hwy 26 and 60.
CARTER TAYLOR MULTI-USE TRAIL Rt. 636 - Appomattox
A 12 mile loop trail with diverse terrain circles through the
Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest and Holliday Lake State Park. It
can be accessed from many area’s in the loop. Hikers, horseback
riders, and bicycles welcome.

BARREL RACING Clayton C. Bryant Arena Rt 26 - Appomattox
Come out and enjoy barrel racing at it's best in the new Clayton C.
Bryant Arena, home of the great "Hot Shot Rey". Residents and
visitors alike are invited to participate, or just sit back and
enjoy the shows.

MOTOCROSS: The Cheyenne is located near some great motorcycling
tracks, trails, and roads. Actiontown MX is just a 20 minute drive,
and we are within 1 hour of Southfork MX, VA Motorsports, Birchcreek,
and Lake Sugartree. Check our events calendar for races at these
popular tracks.
GOLF:
MOUNTAIN VIEW GOLF COURSE North Creek Road - Appomattox
Mountain View is a full service 9 hole public-private golf course
with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Open Daily to
the public. Located on North Creek Road minutes from downtown
Appomattox.
POLICE TOWER ROAD - Appomattox
An 18 hole, tournament level, frisbee disk golf course located in
the new Appomattox County Community Park on Police Tower Road. The
course winds through woods, over streams and rolling hills. Great
fun for the entire family. Open seven days a week.

FESTIVALS: Appomattox Cheerz Friday Festivals April-October
This fun filled Appomattox event is held at Abbitt Memorial Park in
historic downtown Appomattox from 5pm - 8:30pm. Live performances
from local bands, great food and fun for the entire family.
HISTORICAL APPOMATTOX RAILROAD FESTIVAL - OCTOBER
The festival commemorates the Norfolk & Southern railroad's donation
of the Appomattox Depot to the Town of Appomattox. The two-day
festival is held on Main Street and the surrounding downtown area.
Festival highlights include a parade, craft vendors, live bands,
train exhibits, food, and lots of activities for the entire family.
Liberty University Winterfest - December 2008
WINTERFEST has become one of the fastest growing Christian music
festivals in the country and one of the largest winter festivals.
Last year WINTERFEST drew over 300 groups representing over 25
states and Canada.
COMMUNITY OF CANDLES - December 2008
A memorable event held annually the first weekend of December.
Experience the beauty of the entire community coming together in a
wonderous display of white lights. Enjoy an old fashioned carol-
sing followed by a delightful candlelight walk from Courthouse
Square to downtown, the traditional burning of the Yule Log, musical
performances and seasonal readings.
HISTORY: Rich in history, Appomattox is where our Nation united. We
are just minutes from the famous surrender site of Robert E. Lee
which ended the Civil War. We are just a couple miles from the
historical Appomattox courthouse, grounds, and museum. Come stay
with us and take in one of the re-enactments or just explore. .
APPOMATTOX COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM highlights Civil War History,
and contains interesting memorabilia from the Appomattox area.
APPOMATTOX COURT HOUSE AND NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK is the site of
the original village of Appomattox Courthouse. The majority of the
buildings are original to the site, and have been maintained just as
they were on April 9, 1865.
APPOMATTOX COURTHOUSE THEATER is the home of the Appomattox
Courthouse players, offering productions including musicals,
mysteries and comedies, as well as original productions relating to
the historical events which took place in Appomattox.
MAIN STREET APPOMATTOX where you can stroll the quaint streets of
this hisorical town, enjoy an open air cafe, or shop in the unique
antique and specialty shops.
WINERIES: The Commonwealth of Virginia has long held a prominent
place in winemaking history, dating back to Colonial days. Today
dozens of vineyards and wineries exist in Virginia. Many within a
short distance from the Cheyenne.
WONDERFUL WINERIES NEAR THE CHEYENNE! Stonewall Vineyards & Winery,
Appomattox's very own winery. Visitors are invited to enjoy our fine
wines on the patio, in the gazebo and picnic grove, or around the
fireplace in our European style tasting room. Located in historic

SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE & D-DAY MEMORIAL Bedford, VA Vacationers come
from all over to fish, enjoy the water sports and play on the 500
miles of shoreline. The Memorial includes a museum, gift shop, and
plaza memorial area with a triumphal arch, reflecting pool, allied
flag displays, story wall and bronze statues honoring the bravery
and sacrifice of Allied soldiers provide a fitting tribute to this
historical event.
NATURAL BRIDGE is one of the oldest tourist destinations in the
United States and has been included in several "Seven Natural
Wonders of the World" lists, has been designated a National Historic
Landmark, a Virginia Historic Landmark, and is listed in the
National Register of Historic Places.
RICHMOND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY is one of the most popular among
drivers, fans and the media. Richmond's unique, ¾-mile layout
produces tremendous side-by-side racing for the beating and banging
that fans love.
HAMPTON ARENA RACING: October - March Small 1/2 scaled car racing in
the indoor arena. Exciting and closeup. Go early to talk with the
drivers, sit in the cars and get autographs.
