Lake Bastine is one of the original lakes on the Flowage that now 
makes up the famous Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Lake Bastine is on the 
far west side of the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. This is a renowned 
fishing area and is sought after by people all over the country. 
The Turtle Flambeau Flowage itself was flooded to allow paper mills 
and other factories to work correctly. The largest parts of the 
Turtle Flambeau Flowage have several stumps in the water. Lake 
Bastine and the surrounding area do not. The lake is 60’ deep, 
clean and free of debris. People boat for miles just to get to Lake 
Bastine to fish it. Imagine just waking up, getting in the boat and 
floating out to the best fishing waters in Wisconsin. There are

location is very private. There aren’t cars driving by anywhere and 
there are not speed boats flying by you. It is just a nice quite 
relaxing private cabin for rent. The rentals schedule fills up 
quick in the popular months so please make reservations as far in

Joe Miller’s Resort is one of the last remaining original resorts on 
the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Joe Miller's Resort is right across 
the bay and they have a bar and entertainment there. There is also 
Midway Bar, Camp 1 Bar, and Downers Bay right down the street. 
Downers Bay and Camp 1 both have gas. Midway has good food and 
guided fishing tours. 

Pets are welcome in this pet friendly Wisconsin rental cabin. A lot 
of people go to Wisconsin to go hunting or fishing and like to bring 
their pets with to a pet friendly rental cabin and I can relate to 
that. I will have a gate to keep pets in the tiled part of the 
rental cabin. The kitchen and the bathroom have tile. Renters will 
be asked to keep pets in that area of the rental cabin. There is 
also an area in the back of the property by the garage to keeps 
pets. It is a small fenced in area, but I’d recommend just tying up 
your pets if you want to leave them outside. It is hard to find pet 
friendly cabin rentals in Northern Wisconsin for obvious reasons, so 
let’s try to be responsible with pets so we can keep this rental 
cabin pet friendly. Dogs make great hunting and fishing 
companions. Others just don’t want to leave them at home alone.

I started looking at private cabins in Northern Wisconsin to buy, 
but I was having a hard time finding anything right on the Turtle 
Flambeau Flowage in Mercer, WI. I called Dee at Northern Exposure 
Reality in Mercer, WI and she was very knowledgeable of the Mercer 
and Flambeau Flowage area. I looked at a couple cabins and this was 
probably one of the most beat up cabins. I went through the whole 
cabin and made it brand new from the crawl space to the roof. The 
only original things in this cabin are the wall studs and the ground 
it sits on. Dee and Doug at Northern Exposure Reality were very 
helpful in layout ideas and suppliers. 

Need a vacation? When we bought this rental cabin and started 
rebuilding it from scratch there were countless hours spent in 
Mercer, WI just working on the rental cabin. People would come up 
to Northern Wisconsin to help and really have a hard time working on 
the cabin. If lay back on the hammock that hangs from the trees 20 
feet from the lake you can fall a sleep almost instantly! People 
work layback on the couch in the cabin and look out the wall of 
windows on the lake side of the cabin and fall a sleep even with 
everyone else whaling away with hammers and saws working on the 
cabin. Now the rental cabin is finally complete we can just go to 
the cabin and relax. The rental cabin is so relaxing, my buddy Jeff 
decided not to come back home for 3 months. He stayed at the rental 
cabin and worked for a local contractor rehabbing other Wisconsin 
vacation cabins.
