Description
|
|
Set back from a paved country with a view of Pictou across the bay
sits one of the oldest homes in the region. It has been carefully
restored over a period of 5 years and the main level is now ready to
offer for a very special holiday. All floors are in the original wood
and 3 large stone fireplaces grace the kitchen, dining-room and one of
the two bedrooms. The owner's love of antiques and local culture are
evident in original artwork, textiles and literature which fill each
room. Period furniture found in the attic, grace the spacious
living-area and even find their way into the large, new 4-piece bath.
The house sits on a large, rolling acreage with several treed areas
conducive to reading or daydreaming. Down the road is the ocean and
local harbour where small boats come in each day with their catch.

Amenities |
|
The house has a new kitchen with large 2-door frig., countertop stove
and microwave oven. The bathtub is deep and oversized. A full laundry
adjoins the dining-room although you may want to do what the locals do
and use the outside clothes line. Bedrooms are decorated with handmade
quilts and rugs purchased on trips to Quebec and and a variety of
antique lamps, pottery and small furniture pieces are scattered
throughout. The owners have left their collection of Maritime music
and literature for the enjoyment of guests and collections of sea
glass, shells and wooden carvings are showcased everywhere. This
house would be particularly appreciated by persons interested both in
the natural beauty and history of the region and seeking escape from
a busy life.

Ten minutes drive in one direction is the pretty, historic town of New
Glascow and in the other the beautiful Melmerby Beach with the warmest
water north of the Carolina's. Another 10 minutes takes you to the
small port town of Pictou .Both are filled with restaurants, craft
stores and quaint pubs which regularly hold ceidhl music nights.
The city of Halifax is just over one hour's drive through rolling
countryside and the university town of Antigonish is 30 minutes
away. There are excellent shopping malls and entertainment centres if
you like the night life. The winding country roads along the ocean
though are the main attraction. Cape Breton is one hours drive away
and pretty villages of River John and Tatamagouche are also very near.

Rates |
|
Rent is dependent on length of stay and number of occupants, although
the owners will keep it reasonable and realistic. We are not greedy.
A deposit of half the amount is required, to be placed in a
designated Canadian or American bank, at the time a rental date is
established. The remainder will be due on the first date the rental
begins. The deposit will be returned if at least 6 weeks cancellation
notice is given. A security/cleaning deposit of $200.00 is also
required and will be returned after inspection of the house on
the date of leaving.
