THE CABIN
This wonderful country cabin located on the Shenandoah River in
Strasburg, Virginia offers a peaceful mountain experience
approximately an hour’s drive from the Washington DC Metropolitan
area. The cabin is situated approx. 50 ft from the bank of the
North Fork of the Shenandoah River, and approximately 4 miles from
the town center of Strasburg, VA. Walk down the river staircase to
wade in the river or launch a kayak, or sit on the screened-in porch
to watch the water flow peacefully by, as deer, birds and other
wildlife saunter past. This cabin feels like it is miles away from
civilization, but is close to modern conveniences, amenities and
entertainment. Bring only clothes and groceries, most everything
else is provided!
The cabin can easily accommodate a family of 4 or 5. Sleep in the
downstairs bedroom (2 twin beds) or the upstairs loft (one queen and
one twin bed), or set up a small tent (provided) for the kids on the
cabin property. Cook in the kitchen, equipped with a stove,
refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher, or order take-out from a
local restaurant. Barbecue on the outdoor gas grill provided.
Listen to music on the radio/CD player, play one of the games
provided, or bring DVDs to watch movies. Local TV and phone service
is not available, but most cell phones should work onsite.
The cabin is air-conditioned, but generally stays cool without it
due to the extensive tree cover and inside ceiling fans. There is a
window A/C unit in the downstairs bedroom and a second unit in the
upstairs loft. In the fall months, the cabin is heated by both
electric and propane heaters, and also contains a wood-burning stove.
The cabin is child-friendly and has been child-proofed with gates,
outlet protectors and cupboard locks. Infant/toddler gear is
located on the property, including a high chair, playpen, diaper
pail, booster seat, twin bedrails, and some toddler toys, all of
which have been purchased within the last 4 years.
The cabin uses well water, so when you take a shower or use the
kitchen sink, you may smell sulfur - the locals would call this a
bonus, as they swear by the healthful properties of the water. There
is a shower but no bathtub, and there is no washer/dryer, but linens
and towels are provided and there is a laundromat in town. Also,
because it is a cabin in the woods off a dirt road, at times it can
get a little bit dusty.
