The River House overlooks cascading Howard Pond stream. It is
situated on the riverbank at the location where three old mills used
to stand. Privacy abounds at this private four-acre wooded lot. Just
10 minutes from Sunday River and 1/2 mile from US Rt. 2 is a gravel
road leading to a private wood bridge over the river and this
pristine location. Your host is a PSIA certified level 3 ski pro
and Sunday River staff trainer. Private coaching is available and
should be arranged well in advance.
Enjoy the full use of the Howard Pond Town Beach, a short
distance up the road, or a dip in our clear mountain brook. X-
Country ski or snowmobile right from your door all the way to
Canada. Deep cold Howard Pond, just up the road, is renowned for its
great trout fishing and access is easy for a canoe or small boat.
There are small trout in the stream and some excellent fishing in
the Androscoggin River running along nearby Rt. 2.
The Androscoggin is quickly becoming known as a canoer's
paradise for those looking to experience nature. There is easy
access and you will not surrounded by other paddlers. Go for a
couple hours or pack a lunch and plan an excursion for the whole
day. Canoes can be rented nearby or a guided trip may be arranged.
Picturesque views and the soothing babble of cascading
waterfalls will be your treat as you relax on the deck. A sliding
door from the living area is your access to this tranquil spot. A
gas barbeque grill is provided for your afternoon or evening meal.
The deck makes a great place to relax and do some reading while the
kids play in the brook.
As the sun sets and you return from your busy day this is the
place to enjoy that favorite cocktail while the sounds of mother
nature's wonders complete your relaxation. Maybe even catch a small
trout or two in the stream to cook on the grill. In the evening,
relax by a cozy campfire in the stone fireplace by the stream. You
probably will not believe you can be this close to everything and
yet feel so far away.
The River House is private and serene
and yet you will enjoy all the comforts of home.
The comfortable living area has plenty of seating for all and
has wonderful views of Howard Pond Stream. There is a phone, cable
TV and a VCR if you require a break from the tranquility. The
Monitor® heat system is extremely efficient and provides a great way
to dry out those wet winter clothes. There is also a gas woodsove
for the apre-ski ambiance or cold fall evenings. The paddle fan in
the great room and the master bedroom will keep the air moving with
a gentle breeze on those warm August days. The great room and
kitchen area are paneled in native pine with a lofty cathedral
ceiling.
The River House features a new kitchen with maple cabinets. The
kitchen is big and bright and opens directly to the great room and
dining area. If you’re the one cooking dinner you won't feel left
out from the rest of the fun. It is fully applianced; including a
microwave and dishwasher. All the dishes and service you will
require are here, right down to a crock-pot and spices. There is a
full bath, with tub and shower and plenty of linen for a family.
The atmosphere is comfortable and casual and is
furnished with a mix of antiques and Maine furnishings.
The master bedroom looks out over the stream and has a paddle
fan for warm summer nights. A large dresser, rocking chair and queen
size bed with night table will make you feel right at home.
The guestroom on the other side of the hall has an antique
double bed, nightstand and chest of drawers.
Completing the sleeping area is a laddered loft that kids will
delight in. It's like their own little tree house. There are three
twin mattresses on the floor and a secret door that opens up to the
great room below so they can view the TV or be a part of the action
down below. We suggest bringing sleeping bags as we do not provide
bedding for the loft.
This properties maximum accommodation is for 7 people.
