Description
|
|
Recently we sold our home in town, so this beach house is a bit
unusual in that we have furnished it with our antiques and now it is
our full time residence. We live outside as much as possible--using
the beach in our front yard, relaxing on the two hammocks, or
sunset/ocean viewing from the upper deck. The upper deck allows us
to have 360 degree view of the island! The main level has a large
kitchen/living room area with sliding glass doors on the south and
east side facing the ocean. There a master bedroom, bath room, and
Marie's "zen room" for reading and relaxing. The bottom level has a
den/music room with piano, another bedroom, Stan's study, and a
garage with plenty of beach equipment and two great bikes for riding
on the pathways in the area. There is also an outside
shower/dressing room. The house has never been rented. We do not
smoke and would like to exchange with non-smokers. The neighborhood
is somewhat unusual in that many on our street live here full-time,
or use this as their summer home. There are almost no rentals on our
street!

Attractions |

This is a lazy, family beach with none of the hipe of larger resort
areas. We can stroll to the only fishing pier on the island, tennis
courts, the grocery store, movie theater, local tourist shops,
restaurants, several coffee shops, and an exercise gym. Our son
caught a 46 pound mackerel from that pier the first year we bought
our beach house! There is golfing, surfing on the beach in front of
us, sailboating, windsurfing, minature golfing, waterslides, several
uninhabitated islands, Kitty Hawk, and Historic New Bern within a
short drive. We are right next to a public walkway to the beach.
The street our house sits on is unusual in that there is only one
rental house. The others are owned by full time residents or people
who keep a second home just for themselves. It is very quiet and
peaceful.

Stan and I are non-smoking retired educators who can travel any time
of the year. We like to exercise daily and are vegetarians. Marie
was a middle school and high school counselor, and Stan was head of
the Humanities Department at the local college. We come from very
different backgrounds: a farm girl from Ohio and a city boy reared
in the cultural center of Boston. Retiring on the Outer Banks near
our two grown children and three small grandchildren, we have lived
and worked for 30 years in North Carolina. We love to spend quality
time with our family, engulf ourselves in the beauty of nature, lose
ourselves reading a good novel, and attend classical music concerts
or the theater.
