 Description

An architectural master piece made from giant Eastern Spruce logs, chiseled granite and sandstone, with full scribe notch and dovetail joinery, Trout Point's owners built the Lodge in celebration of the Great Camps erected along the U.S. & Canadian Eastern Seaboard in the early 20th century. This three-story structure houses guest facilities, the Great Room, mezzanine library, dining room, kitchen, two bars, and recreational facilities on the banks of the Tusket River. Replete with mica and Tiffany lamps, oriental rugs, log furniture, and extensive indoor and outdoor public areas, Trout Point is the ideal nature retreat. All of our spacious guest suites feature broad river views and full amenities. Many have hand-cut stone fireplaces and porches or patios, as do the Great Room and The Dining Room. The Great Lodge has eight junior suites and one full suite, all with full bath, local Acadian-made log & twig furniture including sofas or love seats, one queen or two double beds, handmade rugs, handcrafted log walls and beam ceilings, & original artwork. All rooms have river views & many have wood burning fireplaces or stoves. Decor includes Italian tile bathrooms, hand-knit rugs, & rustic wood floors. Each room provides a writing desk and Bose CD/radios, but does not have television or telephones.* A handicapped equipped & accessible room is available. The Great Room, porches, patios, decks, breezeways, & mezzanine library provide space for relaxing & enjoying the pristine woods, wildlife, & water surrounding you. *Telephone service is available via the front desk.

 Amenities

Take out Trout Point's own canoes or kayaks on the Tusket & Napier Rivers as they flow to the ocean past Yarmouth County's 365 scenic lakes. The Tusket & Napier's native trout swim the lodge waters, & our trail system will lead you to thousands of acres of protected wilderness for either hiking or mountain biking. No skill or experience is required for gentle, safe kayaking or canoeing up the Napier and into the Tobeatic Wilderness Preserve. The Tusket offers seasonal rapids, and will lead you to nearby East Meadow Lake and other lakes and still waters. Guides & outfitters arranged on request. Canoe and kayak outfitting and guided tours can be arranged. Just ask. Trout Point Lodge occupies the last private land adjacent to the Tobeatic Wilderness Preserve, home to the only native moose population left in Nova Scotia and the endangered southern flying squirrel. The Tusket River system is the most significant watershed in the area, flowing through boreal, Acadian forest, eskers, multitudinous lakes, barrens, & bogs. Black bear, the rare Blanding's turtle, diverse birdlife, muskrat, beaver, and otter inhabit the area. Trout Point is an ecologically minded guest lodge where our guests can enjoy this incredible ecosystem without disturbing it. Relax in wood-fired hot tubs as the Tusket River rushes near by. Forage for wild mushrooms and then cook them up in our teaching kitchen. Or take a leisurely nature walk, a strenuous hike, canoe towards the Atlantic ocean, or perch on a granite boulder to read a book. Trout Point's own 200 acres border well over 350,000 acres of protected wilderness in the Tobeatic and Kejimikujik National Park, which together form the Southern Nova Scotia Biosphere Preserve, created by UNESCO. Easy day trips bring you to a variety of beaches and coastal areas or to over 5 different 18 hole golf courses.
