Description
|
|
Home and apartment built by my father in 1982 is of post and beam
construction. It's a spacious, open design with many windows and is
situated in a ponderosa pine/ douglas fir forest on the east flank of
Trapper Peak, the tallest mountain in the Bitterroot Range. It's a
private location with access by a 1/2 mile long, narrow, gravel- paved
driveway. The home is approximately 3/4 miles west of the West Fork
of the Bitterroot River, which is a very good cutthroat and rainbow
fishery.
The house is wood heated and available for rent from May thru October.
I close it up during snow season as access is difficult when road ice
arrives. The house has a full basement with root cellar, utility
room, and an open loft/bedroom upstairs. The apartment is located
above an unattached garage that is located 30' from the front door of
the house. The apartment has a small bathroom with a toilet and wash
basin but no shower or bathtub. The spacious house bathroom has a tub
with shower, toilet, and wash basin.
Adjacent to the apartment/garage is a long parking shed that will
shelter 4 vehicles. It is open on the front (no doors) and enclosed
on the 3 other sides. It is also made of posts and beams and sided
with rough cut pine boards.
Our 77 acre property is adjacent to the Triple Creek Guest Ranch,
which is one of the most exclusive (read expensive), dude operations
in the west.
Our property is managed as a tree farm and has 3 streams flowing thru
it; Baker Creek, House Creek and an unnamed tributay of the West Fork
River. Most of the land is forested but easy to walk thru as there is
little understory brush.
There's a wooden deck with deck furniture and BBQ out the back door.
The wood shed is directly adjacent to the deck

washer, drier, phone, VCR/video disc player with TV (no network or
satelite connection). The kitchen has a microwave, dish washer,
convection oven, and electric range for cooking. The wood stove also
has an oven and can be used for cooking during cold weather. The
kitchen is separated from the living room/dining room by a counter
that comes with 4 bar stools. The living/dining room is carpeted and
has wood paneled and sheetrocked walls with a high, beam- exposed
ceiling that contains a small sky light. My father was a collector of
copper cookware and his collection is hanging on a beam supporting the
kitchen ceiling.
The master bedroom is adjacent to the kitchen and bathroom, is
carpeted, has a wash basin, a queen sized bed, and large windows with
attached "warm window" drapes, a wooden desk, closet,
chest-of-drawers, mirror and wooden table plus phone lights,etc..
The upstairs bedroom has a twin sized bed, carpet,
chest-of-drawers, closet, night stand, lights, and opening window.
This loft, bedroom is directly above the kitchen and accessed by a
stairway the climbs up to this second story room from the front door
entry-way.
The living room contain a couch/futon that makes into a twin sized bed
that can sleep two. The apartment also contain a futon as well as a
twin sized bed so the apartment can sleep 4 people max. The apartment
is also carpeted, has chest-ofdrawers, chairs, table, night stands,
opening windows,etc..

Attractions |
|
Wildlife is a big attraction here with numerous turkeys, deer, and elk
as well as many birds. We put up a hummingbird feeder but no longer a
seed feeder as black bears are "sometime" visitors. Wolves have been
seen from the house and coyotes are often heard at night. We have a
conservation easement on our 77 acres and are adjacent to a big land
owner (Triple Creek) so the game is attracted to this safe zone.
Triple Creek Ranch abutts the Bitterroot National Forest. The eastern
boundary of the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness is approximately 2 air
miles from our property.
White water boating, hiking, hot springs soaking, berry picking, horse
back riding, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, and wilderness camping
are all options for the vacationer. We can steer you to competent
guides or recommend places to visit. The manager is an avid kayaker
and mountain biker with broad local knowledge.
We're located about 50 miles road miles from the Selway River at
Paradise, Idaho. This river is a classic, wilderness river with an
excellent catch and release cutthroat fishery and lies within the
Selway Bitterroot Wilderness Area. This route can also connect you
with the Salmon Mountain/Grangeville, Idaho road which is a 80 plus
mile dirt road that lies within the Idaho back country.
It's approximately a 2 hour drive to the Big Hole National Monument
via Lost Trail Pass. This is situated near the head of the Big Hole
River Valley, which is a beautiful, Montana grass/timberland full of
cattle and empty spaces. The river is a classic fly fishing
destination as well.
A 2 1/2 hour drive will take you to the Salmon river and whitewater
rafting or kayaking, also via Lost Trai Pass or you can take the
backway in and go up the West Fork of the Bitterroot and over Woods
Creek Pass. The later route takes you close to a great Forest Service
Campgroun/hot spring.
