 Description

Swim and fish in summer in a beautiful small lake. World-class skiing in winter at Smugglers Notch, a well know destination for beginners and experts. A great getaway for a Vermont vacation any time of year. Cottage is much larger than most, with many extras. Full kitchen with dishwasher, large doenstairs bath including washer and dryer, enclosed porch with fireplace, separate deck, outdoor hot tub, big yard with swings, etc. for children. Two bedrooms and small bathroom upstairs. Downstairs, in addition to full kitchen and bath, is a separate dining area, living room with gas fireplace, extra room with piano that can be either an extension of living space or curtained off as third bedroom. Fully winterized, very comfortable year-around. The entrance to Smuggs is 13 miles away, but in exchange for that short drive, you get a spectacular place to stay at a small fraction of the price you'd pay right at the mountain. The rest of the year, our lake frontage is the biggest attraction. You have your choice of our rowboat, canoe, and small (1 or 2-person) sailboat. Swimming is very shallow for a significant distance from shore, so it's great for kids. Fish include smallmouth bass, northern pike, as well as plentiful perch and panfish. TV included with good antenna and DVD (no cable). Fully furnished, with all linens provided, dishes and cookware, even a limited amount of food in the refrigerator for breakfasts. Therefore, the experience is similar to that of an unhosted bed-and-breakfast.

 Amenities

One bedroom has queen bed and walk-out second-story deck. Second bedroom has two twin beds plus two pull-out trundle beds, so it can accommodate as many as four. The room can serve as a third bedroom or extension to the living room--it has a pull-out full-size couch. There is an outdoor hot tub--a small one, sized for two persons. The enclosed porch is unheated, but can be cozy in cool weather with its wood-burning fireplace. The encloded porch leads out to an outdoor deck, with charcoal grill, picnic tables, etc. The outdoor entrances to the deck can be closed, allowing an enclosed outdoor area for toddlers and pets. The piano is definitely not concert-quality, but we keep it reasonably in tune. Television is limited to a few local stations. The lake frontage is separate and shared with our other neighboring cottage. It has a porch-type swing, picnic table, and fire pit as well as a dock, swimming, and boats. It is small lake, and motorized boats are prohibited.

 Attractions

In addition to lakefront activities and the nearby ski area, this is a great home base for enjoying many other Vermont attractions. There's a nearby corn maze and winery. If you enjoy horseback riding, there's a nearby stable. Many guests enjoy bicycling along the scenic back roads. This is one of the most scenic areas of Vermont. There's no better area for enjoying Vermont's famous fall foliage, or for a scenic drive any time of year. Larger cities with great cultural activities--Burlington, for example, or even Montreal--are within very reasonable driving distance. Many of our guests are just looking for a pleasant getaway, and it certainly serves that purpose, as a lovely location in rural Vermont.

 Rates

We prefer weekly reservations, Saturday-to-Saturday, particularly during summer, vacation weeks, foliage season, etc. For peak periods, the weekly rate is $700. At other times, it varies from $650 to $675. We can accommodate shorter periods for non-peak times, and during most of the winter ski season, as we know that it is not always possible for skiers to plan on a full week. There is a two-day minimum of $260, plus $100 for each additional day. Reservations are secured with a minimum deposit of $100 (more for multiple-week reservations). The balance is due the scheduled dates of arrival. We accept all major credit cards as well as checks or cash. All rates are subject to Vermont's 9 percent rooms-and-meals tax.
