THE BATTERSBY HOUSE
In 1864, Captain John Battersby built a stately home on the edge of
St. Peters Bay. Captain Battersby sailed the oceans of the world
trading potatoes, salt fish and lumber in exchange for molasses,
spices and black rum. Once the sea trade diminished and transportation
methods were by land, the Battersby House was moved by a team of
horses from the edge of the bay to the edge of the highway. In 2002,
the house was moved back to the Bay and extensively renovated
replicating the original architecture but assuring comfort and quality
for modern day living.
