Description
|
|
Enjoy the unspoiled east side of the Big Island in a comfortable,
contemporary vacation apartment with a glorious ocean view.
Soak up the Aloha . . . .
Avoid crowded condo complexes and small hotel rooms. Hale Mele Lea
allows you to enjoy your Hawaiian holiday in a lovely, spacious,
light-filled unit all your own.
Located on the ground floor, the two front sliding doors open onto a
patio with a sweeping ocean view. Settle down with a cup of Kona
coffee and listen to the sound of the nearby surf. Sunrises are worth
the early hour, as they are exceptionally beautiful. In the evening
you may be able to view Pele’s fiery glow (and sometimes embers) on
Kilauea, as well as a blanket of stars. To ensure your privacy and
vacation enjoyment, the unit is never rented when the upstairs is
occupied.
This corner of the Big island offers delightful weather--much drier
than Hilo, more showers than Kona‑-with cooling trade breezes
throughout the day. This scenic area offers a balmy climate year-
round.
There are plenty of attractions in the area to keep you busy
sightseeing, swimming, and exploring. However, it may be challenging
to avoid spending all day on the patio gazing at the ocean view and
relaxing in the tranquility of the Big Island.
The Big Island is larger than all the other Hawaiian Islands
combined. Vacation activities abound, including viewing vibrant sea
life while snorkeling tidepools, hiking through pristine rain
forests, relaxing on black sand beaches (Kehena Beach is 10 minutes
walk away), exploring lava tubes, hiking in the National Park,
swimming with the turtles and dolphins, learning about the cultural
heritage of the Hawaiian peoples, and, of course, viewing the world's
most active volcano, Kilauea, where new land is being created every
day. Most of all, you'll enjoy "talking story" with the locals who
know and love this beautiful island.
Your vacation rental is fully supplied with everything you desire for
a delightful Hawaiian holiday, including a fully-equipped kitchen (no
small half-size refrigerator), tropical-themed indoor furnishings and
decor, double bed-sized futon couch, comfortable patio chairs and
dining set, spacious king-sized bed, separate walk-in dressing area,
and sliding doors front and back bringing in the Hawaiian sunshine
and trade breezes

Attractions |
|
Hale Mele Lea is located on the famous "Red Road" or Mango Road,
across from Kehena black sand beach. Nearest town is Pahoa, about 15
minutes away.
45 minutes from Hilo Airport.
The Big Island is a natural wonder. You will find everything from dry
lava deserts, to cascading waterfalls, tropical forests, and high
alpine zones. The Big Island offers a wealth of activities or a
chance to simply relax and renew your spirit. There's an abundance of
touring information at the house, including maps to good snorkeling
spots, Volcanoes National Park hike descriptions, and other
sightseeing materials.
Kehena beach is just a ten-minute stroll from the house. This
clothing optional, gay-friendly beach is one of the most beautiful
black sand beaches on the island.
Down the road is the hot pond where a lovely soak in the naturally
heated oceanside pool awaits. A mile away is a yoga eco-retreat
center offering daily yoga classes, healthy dining, and Hawaiian
craft instruction.
Walk the quaint streets of Hilo, an old plantation town, visiting art
galleries, museums, and enjoying local eateries. Be sure to attend
any celebrations that may occur during your visit to "talk story"
with some East Hawaiian residents and sample local cuisine. A must-
see is the Farmers Market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings—an
excellent, affordable opportunity to purchase delicious island
fruits, colorful flowers, organic vegetables, numerous homemade
goodies, and local crafts.
A highlight of your visit will be Volcanoes National Park where you
can view flowing lava, tour lava tubes, and explore miles of scenic
trails. Park information in the house details the attractions of the
park.
There are many more attractions in this area of Hawaii—a newly-
formed black sand beach dotted by baby coconut palms; isolated,
emerald green mango groves surrounded by black lava flows; extensive
fields of ripening papaya; "champagne" swimming cove where sea
turtles frequent; Kapoho Marine Preserve snorkeling pools and coral
gardens; spouting whales and spinning dolphins.
