 Description

This property always exceeds renters expectations. There are 4 houses available to renters. 2 of them fit the $$ category we are in as they have limited kitchens and sleep 2+ people. Total there are 4 rental houses that can sleep 16 or so. See below for details. Our property is 1000 feet of shoreline and our cove proves to be a great place to explore Maine shore life and geology. The nearby coves and islands are within rowing and paddling distance for picnics and exploring. The harbor is home to seals and porpoises, as well as great blue heron, ospreys and frequent eagles. Fishing is always a great pastime. If you like to swim in cold water, there are ladders at the dock for a quick escape. A gravel beach, just to the north of 'The Barnacle' is full of treasures and is a good place for children who like to wander in and our of the water rather than dive off the float or hang on top of a surfboard. There are warmer, freshwater lakes nearby. The 40 acres of woods around the houses are full of paths and mossy areas for exploring. There are mussels to be collected at low tide, clams in the mud flats (license may be required, and red tide checked) and lobsters to be steamed by you on the deck.

 Amenities

We have rowboats and kayaks that you may use. Every person in a boat must have a 'flotation device'. These are kept at the top of the pier. Be aware that you are using the boats at your own risk and treat them that way. A mooring may be available if you choose to bring your own boat. Small trailer boats may be launched at the nearby Pretty Marsh Landing The RabbitHole has 2 bedrooms and a sleeping loft. The large living area has a dining and galley kitchen, WD and W/D. Wood stoves and propane space heater make 3 seasons possible. Large deck over looks the cove- Sunset is spectacular! The Barnacle has a queen bedroom and a king (or twins) sleeping loft. This house has a large social gathering space. Serving dinner to 12- 14 is possible. A cozy 2-4 is perfect. These houses are part of a camp that also includes 'The Boathouse' (cozy king or twins bedroom) and 'The Popover' (queen sleeper and king (twins) loft) These houses are adorable! They have no official kitchen but have refrig, toaster oven, micro, coffee-maker, bar-be-que and propane lobsta steamer available. These are a deluxe 'campers' delight. No open fires allowed! So actually there are 4 places to choose from, 4 calendars to manage. The availability is not clear by this web site SO PLEASE CONTACT ME. Totally, the camp will sleep 16 or so and makes a GREAT reunion spot. Contact owner for details on whole camp rentals for groups and reunions. We'd love to have you!!

 Attractions

Acadia National Park is the grand local attraction with its 'mountains' to climb, ponds for fresh water swimming, carriage roads for biking and walking, and many natural wonders like Thunderhole and Ship Harbor. Bicycles and kayaks can be rented for use around the island and daylong kayak tours are available along the coast. Ferry service to nearby inhabited islands expands the options to explore life in Maine's island communities. Deep sea fishing boats, windjammer sails and whale watching excursions run daily from Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor offer many boutiques and galleries for shoppers. Restaurants from lobster in the rough to fine gourmet meals are abundant. Groceries and newspapers are just five miles away in Somesville and Southwest Harbor, 9 miles from camp, has all you may need. The islands only organic farmstand is less than 5 miles away and Bar Harbor, the islands jewel of all things available is just across the island. Fresh seafood and lobsters, beer and wine, it's all here.
