Description
|
|
5-day/4-night salmon fishing adventure for two people in famous
Rivers Inlet, British Columbia, Canada. This is the home of the
largest king salmon for 2007 at 77.5 pounds. Black Gold Lodge at
Rivers Inlet is the premiere sport fishing destination along British
Columbia's rugged Pacific coast. Rivers Inlet is an area known for
its enormous chinook salmon - powerful sea-run Tyee - not to mention
abundant coho, pink and other varieties. No wonder trophy hunters
from around the world specifically target these waters. Salmon
fishing is outstanding, but there's also excellent open-ocean
fishing for ling cod, snapper and bard-door halibut weighing over
150 pounds. When you're not on the water, relax in comfortable,
well furnished cabins and enjoy great service from the experienced
staff.

Attractions |

Secluded from the city life Rivers Inlet will offer peace and quite
for those seeking a resting spot.
200 yards of line peeling off in seconds is a sound you’ll never
forget. That’s the sound a 65-lb Tyee pounding your plug and tearing
off, hell-bent for Asia. Then the real work begins, trying to coax
that hog to the boat. And before long you start wishing you had
spent a few more hours at the fitness center before the trip..
Salmon fishing at Black Gold Lodge is simply outstanding. There’s no
other way to say it. Rivers Inlet, home to three major river
systems, is teeming with giant chinook and fat coho, along with all
other Pacific salmon species. The unique geography here stacks all
the odds in your favor for the promise of an unforgettable fishing
experience.
“Springs” (the Kilbella and Chuckwalla chinook) arrive in early
June, with numbers increasing as the Wannock River stock appears. A
second run starts mid- to late-July, peaking by mid-
August. “Northerns” (coho) run from mid-July through September in
such numbers than 20-30 fish days are not uncommon.
The area known as The Wall has probably produced more big fish than
any other spot on the B.C. coast. Crows Nest, The Triangle, The Dome
(nearby), and Cranstown Point have also been very productive. (When
you arrive we’ll clue you in on some other hot spots that we like to
keep quiet.)
HALIBUT
When it’s time to take a break from the salmon action, swing by the
lodge for a change of tackle and hang out on the bottom for a while.
Halibut fishing may not offer the same level of heart-pounding
action as a fight with a good strong chinook, but fishermen who
target halibut usually get the last laugh when they haul in a fish
three times the weight of the day’s biggest salmon.
Don’t even try hoist these big suckers into the boat; just lash them
to the stern and tow them in.
Just a few hundred yards from the lodge, out in the middle of goose
bay, lie some of the biggest barn doors on the coast. You’ll find
nice sandy bottom between Cow and Calf islands, and also off the
shore of Open Bight
COD & SNAPPER
While you’re on the bottom looking for halibut, you may come across
a few ling cod or snapper. Not only are they a lot of fun to catch
(and eager to take your bait), they’re some of the best eating fish
in the ocean! Bring a few in for supper, or stock up for the trip
home.
