The private, residential neighborhood is in a forested, wilderness
setting with deer, eagles, otters, and numerous bird species. A short
walk down the hill is the community beach with beautiful views,
tidepools and barbecue. A nearby marina is within ten minutes walking
distance. The ferry landing is 5 minutes away by car to allow for
convenient travel to the mainland.
Fishermans Bay Village is 4 miles from the house and has a full
grocery store, several cafes, restaurants, art galleries, shops,
pharmacy and medical center. The Lopez Center for the Arts is home to
an active artists community where festivals, exhibitions and concerts
take place all summer. The Lopez library is another excellent
community resource open to all.
Spencer Spit State park is visible from the house and provides trails,
miles of beaches and picnic areas. Odlin County Park is nearby and
has wonderful sandy beaches as well as a public dock for water taxi
service to Bellingham.
Whale watching, kayaking, bicycling and golfing are popular with
visitors to the San Juan Islands. Bike and kayak rentals that are
available both in the village and online provide a wonderful way to
explore this vacation isle. Other activities include: Hiking,
Fishing, Shopping, Restaurants, Sightseeing, Swimming, Boating,
Sailing, and Beachcombing.
The San Juan Islands are accessible by plane, floatplane, or
car/passenger ferries. Lopez is the first ferry stop after leaving
the mainland. The ferry ride (schedule) from Anacortes takes 35
minutes and travels through scenic passageways with vistas of Mt.
Baker, the Olympic Peninsula and the Straits of San Juan de Fuca. The
close proximity to Canada (Victoria or Vancouver), Orcas and San Juan
Islands allows for day trips by ferry/plane that can further enhance a
wonderful vacation.
