 Description

3 simply furnished apartments in a large detached villa on the edge of a quiet seaside village about 7 mins walk from a sandy beach and the village centre. Shared use of large, shady, enclosed garden surrounded by olive groves. Come and experience life in a beautiful Greek village much appreciated by Greek holiday makers but off the beaten tourist track. Several other nice beaches are within easy driving distance and many archaeological sites. Each flat is self contained with one twin bedroom with air conditioning, bathroom with full bath with shower attachment, open plan living/ dining area with small double sofa bed sleeping 2 and well equipped kitchen facilities. Several balconies help to make the most of the wonderful sun with views of the sea and the olive clad hillsides. Amaliapolis is a picturesque seaside village situated on a large bay in the Pagasitic Gulf on the east coast of Greece, 53km south of the lively university city of Volos from where Jason and the Argonauts set sail. It is roughly midway between Athens and Thessaloniki and so well situated for exploring mainland Greece, including the monateries of Meteora, classical Delphi and other archaeological sites in Magnesia and beyond. Fly to either Athens or Thessaloniki and then take the E75 motorway with the nearest motorway exit around 15km from the house. We recommend hiring a car so you can explore this lovely raegion but it is also perfectly possible to reach the village using public transport.

 Amenities

In the village centre you will find a choice of cafes/bars and tavernas, with excellent fish, three of which stay open all year, all within walking distance of the villa. The village also has two bakeries and two general stores. The beach is also within walking distance of the apartments and is sandy and gently sloping - making it very suitable for young children. There is also a children’s playground, 5-a-side football pitch and volleyball court next to the beach. In high season there is a beach bar. In summer Amaliapolis is popular with holidaying Greek families. You can experience the 'real' Greece here largely untouched by mass market tourism. Sit in the village square looking out over the sea and watch the world go by!

 Attractions

As well as the village beach there are several good beaches within a 30 minute drive. You can also take a boat trip to the island of Skiathos from the nearby village of Achillion. The area of Magnesia is rich in archaeological sites including Ancient Thebes, Prehistoric Dimini, Sesklo and Dimitras. Volos is a bustling small city with a wide range of shops, restaurants and ferry links to the nearby islands of Skiathos, Alonissos and Skopelos. The Pelion Peninsula is within driving distance with beautiful scenery - a good day trip. In winter there is even a ski resort on the peninsula! Explore the seaside villages or drive up into the mountains for breathtaking views. If you want to venture further afield both classical Delphi (approx 120km) and the Byzantine monasteries of Meteora (approx 180km) make fascinating excursions as does the lesser known archaeological site of Dion (approx 170km). Visit Amaliapolis in Spring and see the hillsides covered in beautiful wildflowers. Take advantage of the lower temperatures in May or June if you want to sight see as well as swim. The sea is still wonderfully warm in September and October and the day time temperatures not quite so hot as July and August. Even in the winter months the weather is often bright and sunny.
