Description
|
|
Tyas Cottage is within easy reach of a wide range of attractions yet
very secluded (at the end of a cul-de-sac). It is part of a small,
ancient hamlet in Merrydale valley (designated as a Site of Scientific
Interest) and the site of the first Colne Valley water-powered mill
(17th C). It has a private terrace plus access to large shared
garden, river, mill-pond, waterfall, woodland and nearby moors (and
the Pennine Way). There are 11 golf courses within 5 miles. The
television series, ‘Where The Heart is’ is set in the nearest Village.
See website for virtual tour. Please note that Tyas cottage is
wrongly placed on MapQuest (should be 2 miles south).

Attractions |
|
We're located in a small hamlet within an idyllic local beauty spot on
the site of the first water-powered mill in the Colne Valley, near
Slaithwaite and 7 miles from Huddersfield. The holiday cottage and
adjoining gardens (featured in the Magazine 25 Beautiful Gardens) are
surrounded on three sides by woodland with Merrydale Clough to the
east. Slaithwaite railway station is on the Newcastle to Liverpool
route and the M62 is also within 5 minutes journey time. The nearby
canal and Standedge Tunnel have been recently restored, and Tyas
Cottage is within walking distance of the Pennine Way and Marsden,
home of the Riverhead Brewery. It is south facing within the
sheltered, wooded valley, Merrydale, and at the end of a secluded
cul-de-sac. This is an ancient, cobbled pack horse road and, apart
from the sound of falling water, the property is quiet and rural.
