Deer Island is a small island in the Bay of Fundy in southern New
Brunswick, Canada
Quiet, tranquil. "Get away from it all" type of place. Friendly
people and Maritime hospitalty.
Population of approximately 1000.
A very laid back, non touristy island....with fishing (lobster,
herring, salmon etc) being the main source of income for most
residents.
The free car ferry to Deer Island, New Brunswick is
located approximately 50 km north from the US border crossing of
Calais, Maine into St Stephen, New Brunswick.... or approximately
50km south of the city of Saint John, New Brunswick.
The ferry runs every 30 minutes "year round" from the area of St
George (Letete), New Brunswick
ALSO: from late June to early September there are 2 extra car
ferries
(small toll ) from the island.....one to Campobello Island NB (
Roosevelt Home)
... and one to Eastport Maine., United States
These 20 minute ferry sailings easily
qualify Campobello Island, NB... and Eastport, Maine.... and Saint
John, New Brunswick for day trips from Deer Island.
Lots of salt air and ocean breezes. Very Scenic.
Enjoy the fishing boats in the Harbour & Activity at the Wharves.
Watch the constantly changing tides.
Take a stroll over to Bar Island at low tide to beachcomb for shells
or seaglass.
