Folly Beach is a nature preserve with many species of local and
migratory birds, bottlenose dolphins, sting rays, with excellent
fishing, safe beaches, warm water, and excellent local seafood,
particularly shrimp, crab, clams and oysters, and grouper, mahi, tuna,
and snapper. Taste the local crab gumbo or she crab soup, or steamed
oysters at one of many excellent local restaurants.
Historic Charleston is a 15 minute drive and offers a wealth of
interesting historic buildings, homes, gardens, parks, and museums to
explore. A perfectly preserved 18th century old town is perfect to
explore on foot, bicycle, or by horse drawn carriage.
No city in America is quite like Charleston. Some of the finest chefs
in the country are on staff in the many restaurants and for a city of
its size its choices are superb. The locals are very proud of their
cuisine.
There is plenty to do in Charleston, but if you want to keep your
shoes off all day, not get in the car and stay at Folly Beach, that's
no problem either. You can bird watch, visit the county park, collect
shells, take a surfing lesson, learn to kiteboard, go kayaking, deep
sea charter fishing, or take a boat cruise in the Folly River. Either
way, I guarantee you'll be relaxed and happy.
